Rathnavelu's
Cinematography is the biggest asset to the movie which captures and adds a lot
to the mood of the film and elevates it to the next level. The bike chase in
London and the fight in the car parking make you wonder if you are watching a
Hollywood movie. Devi Sri Prasad's music and especially the
background score is another pillar which makes "1" stand stiff. Be it
the suspense sequences or the emotional ones, Devi gives his Career best music.
The bit song which is taught by Gautam's mother to him and the BGM in the climax
sequences will make your heart wrench.
Sukumar
is the one who deserves most of the credit for daring to attempt a movie like “1”
with the Industry’s leading star. Right from the title credits (which are
beautifully correlated in the climax) to the last frame of the film, he never
deviates from the theme and ensures one scene leads to the other. It’s one of
the best writings in Telugu of late. Especially the ten minutes of the movie
after the last fight is the best and is very beautifully shot. He banked on the
story and not on star power, Kudos to his conviction.
There are
several scenes in the film which displays the mastery and perfection of Sukumar
and every minute detail he has worked on to make the movie perfect like:
Water
splashes only for the bike and not the car in the first fight.
The
bottle used to kill Kelly in the first fight will not have any blood stains.
A glimpse
of Pradeep Rawat’s son is shown in the "Who are you" song.
The pattern in Rubik's cube.
The video
camera clippings which Kriti records at the orphanage and with the police
officer (to prove Mahesh doesn’t have a past) display different time though
played in order.
"1"
is Mahesh's movie after three successful blockbusters and one needs absolute
guts and the zest to explore something new for accepting this script. Its
Mahesh's best performance till date and the effort he has put is evident in
every single frame. The character Gautam has multilayered dimensions and Mahesh
comes out of his comfort Zone and gives his best to make the character sink in
you. He underplays when required and emotes with utmost intensity every time he
thinks about his parents. The intermission scene where he portrays all
contradicting emotions in one single scene and the climax scene where Mahesh
with his quivering fingers looks at the album reiterates the fact that he is
one of the finest actors TFI has ever produced.
“1” is
such a novel attempt which would have been embraced by the viewers’ right from
its first show had it been made in any other language. Sadly 'mixed response' was
the word here. It was disheartening as a true movie buff to listen to comments
like "Em Cinema ra Brahmanandan kuda lekunda"..." Manalni maname
marchipothamemo cinema tharuvaatha"..."Emi artham kaakunda theesaru "
when there was so much effort and research put in the Script and the making.
Dear
fellow viewer,
When I
took my 65 yr old Grandmother to the movie and she understood every bit of it, I am not sure which part of the movie was hard to understand.
What is
the need for a comedian in a Psychological Thriller and in what sense is it a
requisite?
Why do
you always lament that the Industry doesn’t produce quality movies when you
can’t appreciate and accept a new attempt?
If what
all you look for in a movie is 6 Songs (including an intro number on hero and a
pre climax mass song), Five fights, an unexpected horrible
intermission twist followed by 45 mins of Brahmanandam/M.S
Narayana getting fooled or bashed up, you don’t have the right to comment on
the so called Flaws in the movie which are microscopic.
Thanks to
Face book and Twitter, which are the only forums spreading positive views about
the movie right from the first day. There was a sigh of relief when I went for
the third time I heard the guys adjacent to me in conversation speaking:
"
Baagundhi kadha cinema...Ee cinema ni enduku Baaledhu Annaru"!
Hoping
this positive word of mouth to spread across and make this movie successful
which will pave the way for many more new attempts in future and change the
course of our formula driven Industry.
- An avid movie lover,
Venkat Raghav
Good One!
ReplyDeleteVery true! :)
ReplyDeleteWell analysed and well written Venkat Raghav..!!! Sadly twitter and Facebook are also the only forums to create and spread negative views intrestingly which are so called a "review"..!!! Each and every film is made with lot of hardwork passion.. it really dissapoints when audience make a judgement within seconds.. So my request is analyse it step into director's shoe think and then make a comment.. I hope that'l be more sensible..!! Make sure your review ends up on the right side.. which makes you proud..!!
ReplyDeleteThats true Aakhash....I completely agree with you on that :) But for "1" in specific i found positive responses dominating negative ones only in FB and Twitter and that's why mentioned them!
Deleteits Rightly said
ReplyDeleteWell said Venkat Raghav!
ReplyDeletemy learning from the movie 1..

ThanQ it's true
ReplyDeleteAwesome move , and terrific analize.
ReplyDeletevery good article...happy to see many supporters for a good movie like "1"..nijanga mana audience antha thelivaina vallu ayyunte mana state politics ila enduku undevi...
ReplyDeleteAwesome....Baga raasaru..!
ReplyDeleteThere is a difference between understanding the movie and getting the screenplay right. I believe that the film can be understood by everyone but it was not presented very well. Never ever under-estimate the audience and say that they cannot understand complex stories.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the best review for "1". Agreed with every word in the review
ReplyDeletekummesav ga !! good one venkat !!! take up the job of reviewing the movies as a professional rather than going for MS ;)
ReplyDeleteI have seen this one time and would like to go for second attempt. I did not felt any where boring or disconnected frames as some people commenting, rather it is quite interesting and breath taking if we observe properly.Very good movie to watch.
ReplyDeleteThanks, its true, amazing movie!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen this type of movie in my life time, not formula movie
ReplyDeletewonderful movie
ReplyDeleteGood to see dis article ..
ReplyDeleteA wonderful analysis... Great job...... !!!!!
ReplyDeletearticle ... is true
ReplyDeletevery badly, www.greatandhra.com is spreading the shit on 1 one. review from greatandhra is very bad and every day he need to put some shit on the movie.crazy guys.
ReplyDeleteEven I went to theatre after hearing a lot of negative reviews but after watching this movie I thought the people who did not liked this movie are nothing but fools who always encourages routine cinema
ReplyDeletethe plethora of commercial movies before 1-Nenokkadine taught people to stereotype movies based on commercial content.1-Nenokkadine is that kind of a movie that one has to watch for themselves to decide whether they like it or not. This is quite evident from the polarizing opinions that this movie generates..Some like it,some dont..The point I am trying to make is watch it yourself and form an opinion, atleast it(opinion, that is) would your's and few years down the line you won't be wondering about it's commercial failure(Ex:Khaleja,Athadu) and why people failed to embrace such a novel attempt at a time when they were constantly cribbing about the brain-numbing crowd pleasing slapsticks.Judge it on what it's actual content rather than it's lack of "commercial stuff"
ReplyDeleteeven i went to movie after checking out its reviews, but to surprise its best movie in Telugu industry

ReplyDeleteThis is the only "1" getting positive responses by dominating negative Reviews

ReplyDeleteI accept with you Venkat... Its an awesome movie. Very disappointing to hear "artham kaaledhu" from the frnds
ReplyDeleteThanks for nice review.
ReplyDeleteI was also feeling bad of the people's view on this movie.
Just now I have watched it and I would love to rate this as Telugu industry's best thought movie in a decade. Many more attempts for different movies will be attempted after this.

If this movie was made in Tamil n dubbed into telugu all audience would have criticized telugu industry for not giving such experimental movies, but when such experimental movies(oosaravelli, sahasam, idi sangati, okkadunnadu) are picturized in telugu, our so called audience would say no commercial elements in the movie ......RIP telugu common audience
ReplyDeleteur idea is very right..definitely people would have watched more had it been a tamil film and dubbed into telugu....
DeleteThis is not a different movie. It is a commercial movie. It has 5 songs which are unwanted and unsituational. It has forced comedy. It has fights and chases which are not needed and poorly shot. They dint not compromise on item song either. Audience should get emotionally attached to hero character in 1st half but it did not happen. Why did the hero fall in love with the girl? Why was he ready to forget his past for the girl? And the climax was dragged. Movie should have ended when he killed nazar.
